On Saturday, Nov. 16, at approximately 8:50 p.m., a Deputy First Class Taylor Strong, of the Calvert County Sheriff's Office, observed a gold Ford Mustang speeding southbound on MD Route 261 near 17th Street in Chesapeake Beach.
The deputy activated emergency lights and sirens in an attempt to initiate a traffic stop; however, the driver, identified on Tuesday as 36-year-old Chesapeake Beach resident Justin Foreman failed to comply, leading to a pursuit that spanned nearly two miles, officials say.
The chase came to its conclusion when the Mustang crossed the double yellow line into oncoming traffic, veered off the roadway, and collided with a telephone pole.
Deputies administered first aid until paramedics arrived, but Foreman was pronounced dead at the scene.
The involved deputies were equipped with body-worn cameras, prosecutors noted and the footage is expected to be reviewed as part of the investigation.
This is a developing story.
